a pretty penny

Luke spotted this right outside of our front door, embedded in the street on 77th. it is so worn down that you can't decipher it's age!(for those of you that know me well, i am always finding and picking up heads up pennies for good luck) so from now on, when i head to work or out for a new adventure, i will smile and know that the good luck penny will always be there for me and unbeknownst passersby

surprise package

the day after thanksgiving someone buzzed our door (we are constantly being buzzed by delivery drivers and randoms since we are apt 1) and i let them in not expecting anyone or anything. then the knock at the door had me dashing over to see what it could be. a lovely box full of goodies from my very good friends in denver, jen and erick. homemade peanut butter (a favorite request of mine) with a unique, custom made label just for me, a batch of brownies, and a giant loaf of banana bread. post-thanksgiving heaven! good friends are such a blessing :D

balloons on parade

these little kids eventually got kicked off the port-a-potties by the nypd.

we awoke ambitiously early thanksgiving morning and traipsed through central park to the west side for the macy's parade. i've been watching this every year since i can remember on tv and to see it up close was pretty spectacular. a splendid way to spend our first thanksgiving as new york residents :)

chelsea

ambitious dog-walker

i counted at least 9 dogs here. seems like a lucrative business here in NYC

great news

it's been a major struggle for me adjusting to life here in new york after living such a splendid and carefree one in denver. just when i thought i might give up, a little sign of hope was spotted :)

roasted acorn squash

this is what my very first college roommate, Louise aka "wheezy" (an elderly woman who let me live in her splendid home and help her with chores for free rent), made for me my first semester @ K-State and I loved it (minus the raisins she threw in, but you are more than welcome to add them if you wish, and/or some walnuts or pecans for texture)

kale craze

i have a new obsession with this lovely, leafy green! chopped and wilted with olive oil, freshly minced garlic, and crushed red pepper flakes makes a delightful and incredibly healthy snack/meal/side. whole foods has definitely rubbed off on me

clint eastwood @ the carlyle getting into his car. happened to walk by on our way home from central park. poor guy was bombarded. naturally, his face is directly behind the rearview mirror. thought i had the perfect pic op!

the lead pack of women
the lead pack of men

having run 2 marathons in my life, it was certainly exciting to be in New York to witness the marathon this year. especially since it was literally right outside my front door. uber cool sight to see! hopefully i will be a participant in the future.
