sewer scare

imagine you're on your way to work. it's 6:45am and you're walking briskly across the street in the cold morning air. you glance up to see if the light is changing and, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHKKK! what the??? mini panic attack starts to take over your body as you look around helplessly and find no one. no animal control, no police, no pedestrians to scream to and point. not what you were expecting on a monday morning.

then you see it...

...the clever advertising and horribly deceiving faux scenario. at least you can breathe now as you curse the history channel under your breath and shake the shudders out of your scared-to-death body. oy vey.

northern spy food co.

when my friend ashley and i are together, we like to indulge like there's no tomorrow. i love her company. we explore, we dine and we usually spend too much money and lose things (cameras, cell phones, id cards, credit cards, etc). i take too many pictures and we both consume copious amounts of wine. we always end up with purple stained lips and fantastic memories.

maybe i'm becoming an old granny in my late 20's, but i love how wallpaper is all the rage again. did you know that reusable, self-adhesive wallpaper exists?! i find this extremely appealing to renters (such as myself)

so i don't normally find rolls of toilet paper compelling, i just love the brass holder that says "captain"

crispy sweet potato gnocchi with fennel and sage. fluffy little pillows of bliss!

watercress salad with mint leaves, shredded green apple, chopped radish, creamy mustard vinaigrette and topped with a soft-boiled egg

an interesting combination of flavors. i found it quite refreshing (or maybe i was just heavily influenced by the fennouillet grenache we were drinking)

this plate of fish and veggies looked so unassuming. quite the latter! holy taste-gasms. you have no idea. the tender, moist fish with the crisp seared skin, topped with thin crunchy fries, and a subtle anchovie butter drenching the perfectly sauteed veg underneath. christina and i both devoured our plates (i literally wanted to lick mine clean, but refrained) and a girl at the table next to us told the waitress, hands down, best dish of 2011. i strongly agree. ashley had the amazingly succulent lamb roast which i sadly did not get a picture of :(

just look at that happy face. the 3 of us (christina is from long island and met ashley in barcelona while they taught english together) were completely satisfied and happy at the random finding of northern spy food co.

here and there

strolling through chelsea market

these boys kept trying to poke the live dungeoness crabs to see them move. i'll admit, i was just as fascinated.

oh man, what i would do with those scallops and oysters. i am so glad i love seafood.

i need one of these gargantuan size tubs in my pantry. i love to just dip plain graham crackers in it. when i was in paris, i was obsessed with banana and nutella crepes for breakfast.

have i mentioned that i miss being a florist? you get to be surrounded by beautiful, living things that smell good and make people smile.

that's it sun, work your magic!

i wish all new yorkers would adhere to this. city dogs have no option but to poo on the sidewalks. disgusting. you can see the humiliation on the poor dog's faces every time!

i wonder if this pair gets to trade spots in the rolling carrier?

i have yet to ride my bicycle in the city. eek!

i love my friend ashley's pattern sense and color scheme here.

fact - ashley's coat gets more compliments than my roommate's miniature chinese shar pei.

too hot to hold (and waaay too hot to drink yet, dang!)

so silly

it sure is

tipsy parson

if i was a practicing gypsy, i would've totally dumped this cream on the floor and shoved this little gem in my purse.

don't think he'd look so happy if he knew his fate at the garnish bar
